What the Heck is Fractional HR & Why Do I Need It

In January 2024, I left my corporate job as an HR Executive to take a 6-month sabbatical, with the intention of jumping back into a new role once recharged, however, as I began to interview, the feelings of stress and dread almost immediately returned. I knew I couldn’t go back. So, with the support of my husband and a 1-year timeline, I decided to swap out the boardroom to work with small businesses who have big ideas and like to have more fun!

Hi, my name is Erin, and I’m a former corporate HR executive who spent 20+ years climbing ladders, building teams, navigating constant change, and trying to convince CEOs that people really do matter. I now work as a fractional HR leader, helping business owners like you build strong, people-first companies without all the corporate fluff.

You may have heard of fractional business leaders, but don’t quite know why it might be the missing piece in your growing business? Let me break it down for you.

First, what is Fractional HR?

Think of me as your part-time HR leader without the full-time cost or commitment. I work with growing businesses, typically with 5-50 employees, who need help figuring out how to keep their people (aka, employees) happy, motivated, and sticking around, but don’t need (or want) to hire a full-time HR executive, which can be expensive, and you need to make every dollar count.

You can now have your own Head of People, just a few hours or days a month, and don’t have to pay the six-figure salary.

Why Does Employee Engagement Matter to My Business?

Retaining good people is hard, especially in today’s market. And when you’re running a small business, every employee matters. If one of your employees is burned out or ready to quit, what affect would that have on you, your other employees, and possibly your customers?

This is where I come in. I help business owners build an employee experience that makes people want to stay, do great work, and tell their friends how awesome it is to work with you. And I don’t use corporate buzzwords or 100-page slide decks; just simple, practical strategies that actually work.

Here’s How I Can Help You Grow

  • Create clarity about roles, expectations, and where the company is headed
  • Build simple systems for feedback, growth, and recognition
  • Coach your managers to lead with confidence (instead of “winging-it”)
  • Design onboarding and offboarding that people actually talk about as a positive experience
  • Listen to your team and spot problems before they become expensive ones

And yes, I’ll make sure your policies and compliance stuff are in place too; and I promise not to bore you with HR jargon or handbooks no one reads.

Why Should You Work With Me?

Because I’ve seen what works and what doesn’t. I’ve helped companies scale fast, keep their talent through the chaos, and build cultures that people want to be part of. Now, I get to bring that experience to small business owners who are building something real, meaningful, and personal.

And let’s be honest. You didn’t start your business to become an expert in employee handbooks, exit interviews, or performance review cycles. That’s my job. Your job is to grow your business and do what you love. I want to help you build a company where your employees feel the same purpose you do.

The Bottom Line

You don’t need a full-time HR exec to build a great place to work. But you do need someone who knows how to keep people engaged, help your managers become better leaders, and build a culture that drives financial results.

So if you’re tired of Googling how to write a job description or wondering why your best employees are leaving, maybe it’s time we talk.

Let’s make your business a place people want to work and are not just showing up every day for just a paycheck.

Let’s connect. I’ll bring the experience (and maybe a few good HR horror stories). You bring the vision. You can book 15-minutes with me to learn more about how I can help you.
